With my travel around Thanksgiving from Raleigh to Pensacola to York and back to Raleigh I
couldn’t spend enough time to sit down and write one of these out in recap of a full game.
So, I will dive in on some of the major storylines around the team and their performance
through this point of the season with a little Buy/Sell segment.

BUY: Morgan Geekie can be a 50-goal scorer in the NHL
I was pessimistic on Geekie coming into the year. He got a huge jump in playing time and
opportunity last year that he took advantage of with excellent goal scoring ability, but there
was no prior evidence in his career that a stretch like that would last. I was wrong. This guy
can score with the league’s best. He has an incredible shot release (good enough for
hardest in the league so far at 103 mph) and has stepped up as the oUensive leader for the
Bruins even with the absence of Pasta over the last few games. He seems to find the back
of the net every night at this point, hugely important while key players have missed time.
Geekie currently sits alone in 2nd for the league lead in scoring, one goal behind Nathan
MacKinnon. Even Geekie has admitted to a little imposter syndrome at the top of the
league amongst NHL stars like MacKinnon, Connor Bedard, and Sidney Crosby, but I’m all
the way in on this being a potential 50 goal season.

SELL: Eastern Conference/Atlantic Division Standings
Here comes the true downer take on the Bruins season so far so be prepared. I will admit I
don’t trust them. Right now, the Bruins sit 2nd in the Atlantic Division, which in the past
indicates a good chance of the postseason as Thanksgiving serves as an important marker
in the year, but I don’t believe it. The Bruins are playing above preseason expectations
which is great to see from a fan viewing perspective, but from an overall team/organization
perspective it might blur the lines of what the future of the Bruins looks like. The positive is
with strong performing NHL players like Geekie, Zacha, and the Lindholms, a bounce back
year from Swayman, and some young talent performing well at the NCAA level, the Bruins
might be able to get back into Stanley Cup contention sooner than originally expected, but
it’s not now. The Bruins have the most games played in the division at 29 winning 16 for a
points percentage of .552. Based solely on points percentage the Bruins would be 6th in the
division rather than 2nd. The teams that are below them are back-to-back Cup winning
Panthers who have several key players hurt and will get healthy as the year goes on, the
Leafs who have underperformed, but have plenty of talent to make a run, and the Sabres
who might be the safest bet to beat. Not to mention the Bruins are in no true position to be buyers at the trade deadline. They’re having a good year, better than what we thought, but
it’s time to pump the brakes just a little.

BUY: Alex Steeves is a full time NHLer
This guy has been excellent since being called up from Providence. The Bruins are providing
Steeves’the biggest opportunity to play in the NHL of his young career. Undrafted out of
Notre Dame, Steeves only played 14 NHL games as a part of the Maple Leafs from the
2021-22 season through 2024-25. He accumulated just 3 points in that time. Through 13
games with the Bruins this season he has 6 goals and 2 assists for 8 points. Last season’s
runner-up in scoring in the AHL has earned an expanded role, and with the absence of
Pastrnak has elevated to the first line alongside Geekie and Lindholm. His forechecking
tenacity, ability to turn pucks over, and finishing touch in close around the net has been
impressive and noticeable and should be enough to easily secure a full-time role with the
big club even with a fully healthy roster.

SELL: Joonas Korpisalo… that’s it, nothing more. Just sell him.
